Inside Out consists of unisex designs initiated from 2019-2020 as part of my final degree project. I have since developed my preferred looks from the collection and combined them with other projects. The concept of Inside Out derives from those struggling with chronic illness particularly relating to the digestive system. From this I wished to create a concept that encourages body positivity with a twist: the wellness and celebration of the inner workings of the human body rather than the superficial outside.
Inside Out Collection: an oversized gilet with an additional asymmetrical front layer ideal for layering and for colder climates. Print options on the additional layer may allow for the option between a printed and plain garment as the layer could be detachable.
Print, fabric swatches and colourways. The prints for this collection have been developed from medical illustrations and reworked through a process of collages and drawings to create abstract unusual designs.
Inside Out Collection: a puffer coat designed around a central framework that is practical for the wearer and follows natural style lines for optimum comfort. Above is an illustration that features digital embroidery sampling inspired by malabsorption syndromes in the body.
Experimentation of toiling, pattern process and digital embroidery.
A knitwear piece created by hand from my Inside Out collection combined with bell bottom style jeans created for a live industry brief with Vivienne Westwood. Initially the knitwear piece was paired with a drawstring tunic, but whilst revisiting the jeans design during lockdown I discovered the new colours and silhouette meshed well with the jumper.
Inside Out Collection: a two piece shell suit with hand-knitted rib that manipulates the conventional silhouette. Since creating this piece, I have further experimented by including a print from an alternate project seen below.
A brief given by the brand Daily Paper to create a series of print designs informed by colour and trend research for Autumn Winter 2020. Use of CLO3D allows visualisation of concepts and colourways. The concept was based on the idea of an imaginary utopia where the main senses are touch and sound.
Hemsley London SS21 'Free From Prejudice'. Featuring two denim looks from a mini capsule collection. An indigo denim two piece set shows a laser engraved print inspired by Bessie Coleman, the first black woman to hold a pilot's license. I had the opportunity to create the patterns and construct toiles and the final sample of this look shown below.
This second outfit is another two piece set with cut-out jacket created using CLO3D software. The print features Diversity Educator Jane Elliott and her famous quote 'You were not educated in school, you were indoctrinated'.
